About leingrau


The light grey color of raw linnen strikes the key note. Ilze Lebus comes from the Latvian baltic coast. In Riga she studied design before she changed to the Weißensee art school in Berlin. In 2014 she started work as a designer there. Her textile pieces are inspired by the Northern light of her home country, the unique blue-grey of the sea and the sky. Her raw material is linnen, which is traditionally grown in Latvia und Lithuania. She orders it from selected manufactureres in the region. In her Berliner studio she 'felts' the linnen according to an ancient, traditional technique. She combines cool, natural linnen with warm organic merino wool to create extraordinary patterns and textures. From these soft fabrics, that are sometimes combined with silk or cotton, she manufactures unique pieces: plaids, rugs, cushions or shawls. Each of Ilze Lebus' creations tells its own story – of the Northern winds, lonely pine forests and of the beauty of the baltic sea.
